Ichiro to the Bronx, Good or Bad for Yankees?

Picture
By Andrew Stopera

The Yankees are well-known for bringing in big name players. Whether it’s through free agency, or through trade, the Yankees seemingly always get a star. This year, it’s no different. New York acquired All-Star outfielder Ichiro Suzuki from the Mariners for minor league pitchers D.J. Mitchell and Danny Farquhar. Seattle will pay all but two million dollars of Ichiro’s remaining expiring contract. At first, this seems like a great deal for the Yankees. They give up two prospects who aren’t anything special for a speedy outfielder who can hit for a solid average. But after looking at more closely, this deal could be a complete wash.  Click Here to Read More

Update: Gardner Out For Season, New Trade Options Emerge

Picture
By Andrew Stopera

The Yankees continue to talk with other teams about trading for a left fielder and now they may push harder than ever. It was recently reported that Brett Gardner will undergo surgery on his elbow to remove inflamed tissue. Gardner, who hasn’t played since mid-April, will most likely miss the rest of the season. New York has reopened talks with the D-Backs about Justin Upton, and have also talked with the Phillies about Shane Victorino, and the Twins about Denard Span. Click Here to Read More.

Why a Trade for a Left Fielder Isn't Necessary

Picture
By Andrew Stopera

The Yankees always try very hard to pull off a blockbuster deal before the trade deadline. Whether it’s trying to pull off a megadeal for Cliff Lee or a simple trade for a utility player like Jerry Hairston Jr., the New York usually enters August with new pieces. So, it’s no surprise that the Yanks are in trade talks again as the deadline approaches. GM Brian Cashman is currently looking for an injury replacement for Brett Gardner, who recently hit the disabled list. Gardner could be finished for the season after feeling soreness in elbow following a simulated game on Sunday. The Yankees would definitely benefit from a better outfielder. Some targets the Yankees have talked about are very intriguing. Justin Upton, Shane Victorino, and Josh Willingham have been considered potential trading pieces. My opinion? This isn’t necessary.
