Ichiro to the Bronx, Good or Bad for Yankees?
By Andrew Stopera
The Yankees are well-known for bringing in big name players. Whether it’s through free agency, or through trade, the Yankees seemingly always get a star. This year, it’s no different. New York acquired All-Star outfielder Ichiro Suzuki from the Mariners for minor league pitchers D.J. Mitchell and Danny Farquhar. Seattle will pay all but two million dollars of Ichiro’s remaining expiring contract. At first, this seems like a great deal for the Yankees. They give up two prospects who aren’t anything special for a speedy outfielder who can hit for a solid average. But after looking at more closely, this deal could be a complete wash. Why a Trade for a Left Fielder Isn't Necessary
By Andrew Stopera
The Yankees always try very hard to pull off a blockbuster deal before the trade deadline. Whether it’s trying to pull off a megadeal for Cliff Lee or a simple trade for a utility player like Jerry Hairston Jr., the New York usually enters August with new pieces. So, it’s no surprise that the Yanks are in trade talks again as the deadline approaches. GM Brian Cashman is currently looking for an injury replacement for Brett Gardner, who recently hit the disabled list. Gardner could be finished for the season after feeling soreness in elbow following a simulated game on Sunday. The Yankees would definitely benefit from a better outfielder. Some targets the Yankees have talked about are very intriguing. Justin Upton, Shane Victorino, and Josh Willingham have been considered potential trading pieces. My opinion? This isn’t necessary.
